When we started planning this trip, I knew kayaking from Seattle to the San Juans would include lots of urban paddling. Still, I’ve been struck by the number of people we’re encountering both at the parks and on the water. During this pandemic and the associated lockdowns and stay home orders, folks are craving to be outside. This resonates with me. It’s a big part of why I live the life I do and why we chose this trip. We feel fortunate and privileged to do it, and wish more people could have the time and freedom to get out and explore this amazing place we call the Pacific Northwest…just maybe not while we’re doing it.
